38 - Transverse Drive - West Side

Transverse Drive has pretty grassy areas along both sides. But it gets plenty of traffic, so it isn't especially peaceful or private, particularly on weekends. But a convenient set of bushes along the west side of the road provide an easy escape from the crowds.

The street lights there all have numbers on the poles. If you take Transverse Drive a couple hundred yards north from Middle Drive West, you'll find pole #511 on the east (right) side of the street. Across the street on the west side you'll see a grassy area. Go to the back of the right side of this area, and you'll see a small dirt path leading into the woods away from the road.

Take this about 20 feet, turn left and go behind the large bushes that obscure this area from the lawn. Here you'll find a very large, flat area that is shady and private other than from the little path you took to get here. This place is environmentally friendly, as it is dirt-covered with no foliage being stepped on. And it's large enough to accommodate most group activities!
