11 - Dog Training Area
The Dog Training Area is reached through the 36th Avenue entrance into
the north side of the park. Training may be a bit of an
over-statement, but this is a great place for canines to socialize
with each other, and for their owners to do the same.
Just beyond the southwest corner of the training area
is a stand of tall eucalyptus trees. These trees provide a decent
degree of privacy for the pleasant picnic spot that is just beyond.
To reach this place, you can climb over the fence
along the far side of the training area. Alternatively, from the north
side of the doggie area (toward Fulton St.), head west and turn left
on a large dirt path that goes along the west side of doggie heaven
down toward the bison paddock.
You'll reach a four-corners intersection with another
large dirt path crossing the one you're on. (The bison paddock is on
the far-left corner of this intersection.) Turn left here, walk about
100 feet, turn left off the path and toward the base of the eucalyptus
grove.
The ground dips here, giving you nice privacy from the
path. Choose a spot that is also out of sight from dog owners peering
over the training area fence, and you should have plenty of privacy.
This area is sunny and grassy...perfect for a picnic or whatever
tickles you.
